Mountainside

A quiet, family-oriented community.

Known for being within walking distance of parks and schools, Mountainside is a small, close-knit town with friendly neighbors that’ll help you quickly feel comfortable and at home.

Mountainside offers its residents a beautiful area with a small-town feel and a plethora of parks and greenery, walking areas, shopping areas, and restaurants. The city’s residents live in moderately warm air during the summer months and cool to cold days during the winter.

People and Lifestyle

Mountainside is a town surrounded by nature and is perfect for those seeking to be one step closer to green trees, lakes, and waterways. The area also has other recreational activities, a few local options for a city-feeling, and the beach, which is only 45 minutes away.

Residents tend to move to Mountainside from many walks of life. Here, the close-knit community of Mountainside strives to provide an ideal place, welcoming to all.

Dining, Shopping & Entertainment

The city may be small and full of greenery, but the town has its fair share of diners and shopping areas. Aside from the various parks, there are culturally diverse restaurants, a science center, and a movie theatre.

Enjoy a film and popcorn with friends and family at the local AMC theater. Do some cardio or lift some weights at No Body Denied Fitness. For more luxurious stores and entertainment venues, Mountainside residents take short drives to neighboring cities like Westfield.

Bring home food for the entire family from Mazella’s Gourmet Market. Here you’ll find Hot & Cold catering, specialty sandwiches, gourmet foods, and a deli section. Parents and adults can bring home their favorite wines, spirits, and beers from Vine Republic. Sit down and eat at Publick House, a farm-to-table gastropub serving Irish and New American plates, craft brews, and wine. Prince’s Farm Stand provides great, freshly-grown, locally-produced fruits and veggies.

Things to Do

The residents of Mountainside make the most out of their days by being outdoors and amongst the trees. With parks and trails that runoff for miles, there’s always a path you can trek along and get away from neighboring city-like atmospheres.

Watchung Reservation is a 2000+ acre park filled with winding trails accessible to many skill levels, a stream, and a glistening lake, showing the tree-line and sky’s reflection. The Trailside Nature & Science Center sits right next to the Watchung Reservation and is comfortably near open space and picnic tables—families and groups can relax and eat here. Echo Lake Park has plenty of room for sports, with several baseball and softball fields, an ice-skating rink, and even a snack bar.

Schools

Mountainside has schooling systems in place to help children and teenagers in all grades. These schools are:

  • Beechwood School, grades PK-2
  • Deerfield Elementary School, grades 3-8
  • Governor Livingston High School, grades 9-12
